Our client, located in the DFW area, is seeking an experienced IBM iSeries/RPG Developer/Analyst to join their team. The company is 75 years old and a national leader in its industry.
Job Title: IBM iSeries/RPG Programmer/Analyst
Summary: Requires analyzes requirements and development of computer programs using the languages and formats assigned to a given task. Tasks are assigned and are tracked through a Project Management system and through the Aldon Lifecycle Manager. The current primary environment is the IBM iSeries. Legacy programs are written in RPG, RPGLE, RPGLE Free, and standard iSeries languages and tools. On occasion, interface with Vendor requirements may include the use of XML, JSON, and other common platforms.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The "client" is typically part of the internal company staff but could be expanded to include Vendors which are hired by internal department heads. Normally, a staff member will act as a liaison where a Vendor is involved. Programmer/Analyst will need to consult with “client” to gather information about program needs, objectives, functions, features, and input and output requirements. The Programmer/Analyst will be responsible for analyzing the requirements for the required program to include data, workflow, and logical processes. Where interface with other systems is required, the Programmer/Analyst will need to understand the required internal and external checks and controls and methodology.
Programmer/Analyst is required to conduct Unit testing with test transactions to find coding or logic errors and confirm that the program meets specifications. Upon completion of Unit testing, the Programmer/Analyst will work with “user/client” to allow them to verify it meets their needs in the formal Test Environment.
Provide technical assistance by responding to inquiries from others regarding errors, problems, or questions about any programs residing on the iSeries.
Consults with clients to gather information about program needs, objectives, functions, features, and input and output requirements.
Analyzes define, and documents requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, hardware, and operating system environment, interfaces with other systems, internal and external checks and controls, and outputs.
Writes and maintains technical specifications.
Analyzes and estimates feasibility, costs, time, and compatibility with hardware and other programs.
Develops and maintains plans outlining steps and timetables for developing programs.
Researches and evaluates software and hardware to assist in programming or to use as program platforms.
Designs and codes screen layouts printed outputs, and interfaces with other systems.
Converts designs and specifications into computer code.
Compiles code into programs and corrects errors detected in compile process.
Creates test transactions and runs tests to find errors and confirm programs meet specifications.
Analyzes code to find causes of errors and revises programs.
Consults with the client to prototype, refine, test, and debug programs to meet needs.
Writes and maintains documentation to describe program development, logic, coding, testing, changes, and corrections.
Writes documentation or reviews documentation written by others that describes the installation and operating procedures.
Provides technical assistance by responding to inquiries from others regarding errors, problems, or questions about programs.
Trains end-users or technical support staff to use programs.
Installs and tests programs at the client site.
Monitors performance of programs after implementation.
Individuals should have knowledge of IBM iSeries, CL, RPG400, RPGIV, and RPGLE development software.
Other Desired Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of Innovative Computing Software (ICC), EFS, Sequel, Lawson, SQL, and Qualcomm.
